Mizo team manager held with cartridges

Even as security personnel fortified the Capital in view of the Republic Day celebrations,a Guwahati-bound passenger was arrested with over 1,000 live cartridges.

Even as security personnel fortified the Capital in view of the Republic Day celebrations,a Guwahati-bound passenger was arrested with over 1,000 live cartridges from the New Delhi Railway Station. Sources said he was apprehended after police officers found him behaving in a suspicious manner.

Rohoming Liana,manager of the Mizoram Rifles Association’s shooting team,was apprehended while he was entering platform to board the Guwahati-bound North-East Express,senior officers said. Though no firearms were found on his person,the police recovered 1,025 .22-bore cartridges from his luggage.

Liana was returning home with other team members after a national-level competition at the Dr Karni Shooting Range in the Capital. “While entering the platform,he refused to keep the bag he was carrying on the X-Ray scanner. He kept on refusing to hand over the bag to the personnel,” a senior police officer said.

Their suspicions raised,security personnel at the railway station apprehended him and recovered the cartridges from his bag. Liana did not have any documents permitting him to carry the cartridges,the official said.

Liana was immediately placed under arrest,and a case under the Arms Act was slapped on him by the Delhi Police Special Cell.
