Missing for two days,5-yr-old’s body found in sack in West Delhi

The police told the family of the boy,Bunty Kumar,that he had been sexually assaulted before being murdered.

The police said Bunty’s father,Manoj Kumar,had filed a missing report for the boy on April 14. As per his complaint,Bunty had gone out to play at 1 pm that day,but did not return. His relatives later combed nearby areas,but could not find him.

“They informed the police around 10 pm the same day. A kidnapping case and a missing report were registered at the Kirti Nagar police station,” a senior police officer said.

Police officers said on Thursday morning around 10 am,MCD officials working on the sewer line in the area found a jute sack in one of the gutters. When they opened it,they found the boy’s body and made a PCR call immediately. Police called in Bunty’s father,who identified the body.

Police sources said a medical examination found injuries on the boy’s private parts. The boy was found gagged and prima facie evidence pointed to him being smothered to death,they added.

After news of the boy’s death spread,a crowd of agitated relatives and neighbours of the boy gathered in front of the local police station around 12.30 pm and resorted to stone-pelting and shouting slogans. Senior ranking police officers had to go to the spot to pacify the crowd and assure them that the assailant/s would be arrested and brought to justice.

The police said the boy resided with his parents,an elder and a younger brother in Jawahar Camp in Kirti Nagar area. His father works as a labourer in a nearby shoe factory.

The police have now lodged a murder-cum-kidnapping case. The boy’s father reportedly told the police that he had no suspicions so far and had not received any ransom call either. Police suspect the boy was kidnapped by someone known to him,who killed him for fear of being identified.
