* 12 crore (120 million) children are covered under the midday meal scheme so far,making it the largest school lunch programme in the world.
* From Rs 3,010 crore to Rs 4,813 crore in 2006-2007,financial allocation for this programme has been enhanced.

* 11,383 are the maximum number of students served by an organisation in Delhi schools and 78 the minimum.
* 60,000 is the average number of students served per kitchen after extension of the scheme to Class VIII in Delhi.
* On November 28,2001,the Supreme Court issued its landmark direction to expand the midday meal to all parts of India after Tamil Nadu and Gujarat.
