Metro procures 600th coach,8-coach trains in December

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation on Tuesday procured its 600th Bombardier Metro MOVIA car.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Tuesday procured its 600th Bombardier Metro MOVIA car.

The 600th coach was received by the Union Urban Development Ministry’s Secretary Sudhir Krishna and Delhi Metro Managing Director Mangu Singh.

Officials said additional coaches will help the DMRC increase the frequency of trains and introduce eight-coach trains.

“Delhi Metro has been expanding its network rapidly and the DMRC is pleased to celebrate the delivery of the 600th Metro car. These coaches will help us carry the increasing number of Metro passengers in Delhi in a safe and efficient manner,” Singh said.

Bombardier,a German train maker,has to deliver 614 coaches according to its contract with Delhi Metro. The first eight-coach train is expected to be inducted by the end of this year.

A six-coach train can carry 2,220 passengers whereas an eight-coach train can accommodate 2,960 passengers.

The coaches manufactured at the industrial unit in Savli,Gujarat,will be added to the fleet.

Officials said the new coaches are technologically advanced and have improved software systems.
