MCD issues directives to improve sanitation

To improve city’s sanitary conditions and to do away with clogged and overflowing drains during the pre-monsoon and monsoon season,senior officials of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) today issued fresh directives to clean nallahs,drains,gully-gratings and bell-mouths.

Addressing a joint meeting of sanitary superintendents,sanitary inspectors and assistant sanitary inspectors of all 12 Zones,chairman of the Standing Committee Ram Kishan Singhal said priority should be the main roads: “There should be no silt deposits,garbage or malba anywhere on roadsides or pavements. Internal and colony roads should be taken up immediately thereafter.” 

Singhal also asked MCD safai karamcharis to be on regular duty and wear identity cards and uniform. 

Leader of the House Subhash Arya also attended the meet. He announced MCD’s proposal to privatise garbage collection in Civil Lines and Rohini Zones. Narela and Najafgarh Zone will be taken up subsequently,he said. 

“Small auto-tempos fitted with hydraulic systems have been introduced for collecting garbage. Public address systems have been installed.
