MCD inspector held for molesting principal

The inspector, in-charge of 10 schools in Rohini, had gone to the West Delhi school to inspect a fire

Police on Thursday arrested a Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Inspector of schools on charges of molesting the principal of a government primary school in West Delhi’s Nihal Vihar. Mahipal (40) was arrested after the school principal raised an alarm and made a PCR call.

He was remanded in judicial custody for 14 days to Tihar Jail on Friday, police said.
According to police, furniture in a first-floor room of the Municipal Corporation primary school was damaged in a fire on Thursday morning. Rohini police said the principal of the school sent for Mahipal, posted in the office of Deputy Director, Education Department. As an inspector, Mahipal was in-charge of at least 10 schools in Rohini.

When he arrived at the school, he asked to be directed to the fire-damaged room to inspect the cause of the fire and ascertain the extent of the damage. “When the principal asked two guards and a female teacher to accompany her, Mahipal intervened and refused them permission to come along,” a senior officer said.

When he and the principal reached the room, Mahipal allegedly made sexual overtures and asked the principal for sexual favours. He then held her hand, police said. The principal raised an alarm and left the room hurriedly. She went down to the ground floor and informed teachers. A PCR call was made at 11 am, police said.

Mahipal was arrested on Thursday and a case has been registered under sections 354 (molestation), 354A (sexual harassment) and 341 (wrongful restrain) of the IPC at Nihal Vihar police station,” Additional Commissioner of Police (West) Ranvir Singh said.
Spokesperson for North Municipal Corporation, Yogendra Mann, said the inspector, Mahipal, had gone to inspect damage after a fire was reported from the school a few days ago. “Action will be taken against the inspector, he is deemed to be suspended,” Mann said.

On Thursday Mahipal was produced in court. The principal also testified in court and her statement was recorded under Section 164 of the CrPC before the magistrate. Mahipal was sent to judicial custody in Tihar Jail for 14 days. Police are carrying out further investigation.
