MCD calls in extra hands to keep the grounds clean

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has hired extra staff to ensure continued maintenance of Ramlila Maidan for the last one week.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has hired extra staff to ensure continued maintenance of Ramlila Maidan for the last one week. With over 700 tonnes of garbage having been generated over this period, the civic body has deployed 120 safai karamcharis at the grounds with 50 of them hired exclusively for keeping Ramlila Maidan clean.

Besides the safai karamcharis, the MCD has also deployed 60 employees from the horticulture department to keep the grounds leveled. “They are being helped by another 20 people from the works department. When it rains,a JCB is used to help level the ground. A total of 50 bins have been kept all over the ground and we are using six garbage dumpers to transport the garbage from the ground.

A compactor is then used by us to press the garbage collected from the grounds,’’ said a senior MCD official. Most of the staff and equipment being used by the MCD has been diverted from the civic body’s headquarters.
