Maya orders CB-CID probe into Bhatta-Parsaul

The move came after the National Commission for Scheduled Castes sought registration of FIRs on the alleged rape of women during the agitation against land acquisition.

Commission chairman P L Punia had said that on the basis of affidavits given by seven alleged rape victims of Bhatta-Parsaul,the commission had written to the Noida SSP for registration of rape cases against policemen.

Clashes between protesters and police in the villages and neighbouring areas had prompted Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi to visited the affected farmers. His remarks raised a political storm with the UP government denying the charges.

But Punia,after visiting the villages,had said: “I will recommend a CBI probe into the incident. We have recorded statements of several Dalit families who have said that atrocities were committed against them by policemen and district administration officials. There is a need to independently investigate and verify the charges. If found correct,the policemen and district administration officials will be booked under the SC Act.”
