The Mayawati government on Thursday ordered a CB-CID inquiry into the Bhatta-Parsaul incidents including those of firing and alleged rape during an agitation by farmers over the issue of land acquisition in Greater Noida.
The government has ordered an inquiry into all incidents related to Bhatta-Parsaul in Gautam Budh Nagar,UP Home Secretary Deepak Kumar told reporters. He said these incidents include those of firing and allegations of rape.
The move came after the National Commission for Scheduled Castes sought registration of FIRs on the alleged rape of women during the agitation against land acquisition.
Commission chairman P L Punia had said that on the basis of affidavits given by seven alleged rape victims of Bhatta-Parsaul,the commission had written to the Noida SSP for registration of rape cases against policemen.
Clashes between protesters and police in the villages and neighbouring areas had prompted Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi to visited the affected farmers. His remarks raised a political storm with the UP government denying the charges.
But Punia, after visiting the villages, had said: I will recommend a CBI probe into the incident. We have recorded statements of several Dalit families who have said that atrocities were committed against them by policemen and district administration officials. There is a need to independently investigate and verify the charges. If found correct, the policemen and district administration officials will be booked under the SC Act.
