Man killed in dispute over love affair

A man died and three were injured after an argument between two families over alleged love affair of their children turned ugly in Bhajanpura area of Northeast Delhi on Monday evening.

A man died and three were injured after an argument between two families over alleged love affair of their children turned ugly in Bhajanpura area of Northeast Delhi on Monday evening.

Police said the incident occurred at 7 pm,when the girl’s relatives arrived at a sweet shop owned by one of the man’s uncles. There,they reportedly got into a row with his family members.

The police said after learning about the couple’s wedding plans,the woman’s grandfather,Swaraj,initially tried to frame the man,Atul,in a fake case. When the plan failed,Swaraj took his row to Atul’s uncle Rajesh Rana’s sweet shop in Bhajanpura,the police said.

The police said Swaraj,along with his sons and two other men,Kishan and Pappu,roughed up Atul’s family members and even fired a couple of shots from Kishan’s licensed gun. Rajesh Thakur,Atul’s relative,died on the spot,while Atul and two others,Rajesh and Anil Rana,suffered injuries,police said.

The police have registered a case of murder and have confiscated the gun. The girl’s grandfather and his two sons,Anil and Vinod,have been arrested.

“We have to take the girl’s statement in the case,” a senior police officer said.
