The Delhi Police last month arrested a historysheeter who allegedly logged into a virtual courtroom hearing in only his undergarments, smoking a cigarette and consuming alcohol. Despite repeated directions to leave, he allegedly continued to remain in the court proceedings.

The accused has been identified as Mohammad Imran. Raja Banthia, Deputy Commissioner of Police, North, said, “Imran is a school dropout who earlier worked as an air conditioner mechanic, but due to his addiction to drugs and alcohol, he started committing crimes like robbery and snatching, etc, to fund his substance abuse needs.”

“Previously, he was found involved in more than 50 cases of robbery, snatching and Arms Act registered in different police stations of Delhi. He is an active historysheeter of the Dayalpur police station who was released from jail in September 2021, and he again started committing crimes,” the DCP added.

On September 22, a case was registered on the complaint of a court assistant of Judicial Magistrate First Class Anshul Singhal, of the Tis Hazari court. It was alleged that on September 16 and 17, an unknown person joined the video conferencing of the court proceedings using the name Akib Akhlak.

The police said the man was in undergarments, smoking cigarettes, and consuming alcohol. Despite repeated requests to leave, he persisted in remaining during the court proceedings, the complaint alleged.

A team of cyber police officers began a technical analysis of IP addresses and call detail records, but the accused had been using fake email IDs and frequently changing addresses. Due to the dense population in the area, the exact location could not be ascertained.

Thereafter, a manual search and local intelligence operation were conducted in the area of Babu Nagar, Old Mustafabad, Delhi, from which it came to notice that the accused was residing at Chaman Park.
