As the Metro gets ready to chug into Gurgaon,in turn raising apprehensions of problems to the commuters in the absence of a feeder bus service, the district administration is likely to come to the passengers rescue.
With nod from the Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary Transport and Civil Aviation, the Haryana government, the Gurgaon administration is ready to operate the recently-procured low-floor AC and non-AC buses on various routes along the five Metro stations from Monday, when a section of the corridor will be opened for the public.
We have now asked Delhi Metro Rail Corporation officials to provide the time-table for train services so that the feeder bus service can be accordingly coordinated for the convenience of commuters, Gurgaon Deputy Commissioner Rajender Kataria said.
The buses will be operated every 10 minutes to various sectors of Gurgaon and back, officials said.
We have decided to run these buses keeping in view the limited parking at most stations. The total number of buses to be pressed into service will be clear only after the Metro starts plying. Only then we will be able to make an estimate of the ridership, Kataria added.
A bus can accommodate more passengers and is a safer and reliable option compared to other modes of transport, Kataria said, referring to the chaos shared auto drivers and RTVs are expected to create once the line is operational.
The administration also plans to operate the buses in a loop fashion the buses will originate from various points and drop passengers at the respective stations. Same buses will then ferry commuters to their destinations.
The feeder bus service is expected to run into full swing only by July end when the corridor from Central Secretariat to HUDA City Centre gets underway.
