Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) on Tuesday filed its inspection report on the Delhi District Cricket Associations preparedness for the Indian Premier League. The report follows DDMAs red-flagging of the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, where the use of domestic LPG cylinders creates a fire hazard. The stadium hosted the first qualifier match of the IPL on Tuesday,
Other than the use of LPG cylinders, the point of concern noticed during the course of inspection was the absence of building structural and completion certificates, which have not been issued to the establishment by the South Municipal Corporation. The kitchens at the stadium have been running without a valid licence from South corporation. The medical aid system, provided by Max Healthcare, has also been found lacking.
With the use of domestic LPG cylinders being the cause of concern, the report also mentions that the DFS has not submitted its report despite persistent follow-up with Director,Fire Service.
This is quite serious as the use of LPG cylinders without permission from DFS was one of the major issues of this inspection. In absence of any report from DFS,it is presumed that no permission has been granted for the use of LPG cylinders during the match, states the report, copies of which have been sent to Suresh Chorpa, vice president of the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium; Commissioner Excise,Commissioner Food and Supplies; Additional CP,Licensing; Special Secretary,DDMA; and all members of the DDMA,including Lieutenant-Governor Tejendra Khanna and Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.
Allowing the IPL play-offs on Tuesday and Wednesday, however, the report mentions it as subject to adhering to all recommendations, including due care regarding emergency medical response; no use of LPG cylinders without due permission from DFS; and a strong private security system to take care of public safety.
South corporation must take necessary action to implement the closure notices/orders so as ensure that public safety is not put at risk, the report recommends.
