Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar on Saturday inaugurated the much-awaited Sikanderpur flyover in Gurgaon. Khattar also opened one section of the Cyber City Metro station underpass.

Work on the 740-m flyover, part of a Rs 600-crore joint venture project between DLF and HUDA, started in 2012. The flyover — which will carry traffic in only one direction — is part of the 16-lane expressway project. The flyover starts immediately after the Guru Dronacharya Metro station on MG Road and opens at the sector road near Phase-II Rapid Metro station, leading to Cyber City and NH-8.

Officials claimed the flyover will considerably reduce travel time from Sikanderpur to NH-8 and Cyber City — to less than five minutes from the current 15 minutes.

“Sikanderpur Chowk is one of the busiest crossings in Gurgaon with traffic coming from Mehrauli, Faridabad, residential sectors of Gurgaon and Cyber City. Currently, only one road handles the entire load of vehicles. The flyover will decongest traffic near City Court in Sikanderpur, allowing vehicles coming from Mehrauli a smooth passage to Cyber City. It will primarily take the load of traffic coming from Mehrauli and headed towards NH-8 through Cyber City,” an official said.

The flyover has a dedicated utilities corridor to facilitate maintenance in future without causing inconvenience to public.
