Injured workers seek Rs 1 crore damages in HC

Seven workers critically injured in the foot overbridge collapse outside the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium moved the Delhi High Court and sought Rs 1 crore in damages.

Seven workers critically injured in the Tuesday’s foot overbridge collapse outside the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium moved the Delhi High Court on Thursday and sought Rs 1 crore in damages,and Rs 50 lakh for the other injured.

The petition,which would come up for hearing before the High Court,seeks to arraign as parties all top officials of the OC,including President Mike Fennell,CEO Mike Hooper,Chairman Suresh Kalmadi and Secretary General Lalit Bhanot.

The petition,moved through NGO ‘Shramik Referral Centre for People Living with HIV/AIDS’,also seeks court orders to implead as parties Union Sports Minister M S Gill,Union Minister of Urban Development Jaipal Reddy and Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit.

Chief Justice Dipak Misra had on Wednesday taken umbrage at the dire lack of workers’ safety at Games sites and ordered the Delhi government to enhance the compensation by Rs 3 lakh for the seriously injured and by Rs 1 lakh for the other injured in the incident.
