Sanskriti Awards on November 20
The prestigious Sanskriti Awards for notable contributions in literature,art,performing arts,journalism and social work were conferred on Ashok Pawar for Literature (Marathi),Teresa Rehman for Journalism,Tejal Shah for Art,Jyothish M.G. for Theatre and Bahar Dutt for Social Achievement for the year 2009. The awards will be presented on November 20 in the Capital by Prof. Sunil Khilnani,Director,South Asia Studies,Johns Hopkins University,Washington DC. Professor Khilanni is writer and author of famous books like “The Idea of India”,“Arguing Revolution”.

Air India plane faces problems,lands safely
Pilots of an Air India plane with 150 people on board aborted landing at the Indira Gandhi International Airport after experiencing fluctuations on the instrument landing system (ILS) signal,but touched down safely. The visibility was below normal on Thursday due to haze. None of the passengers of the IC-864 from Mumbai to Delhi or the seven crewmembers was hurt. At 12.09 pm,the pilots spotted the signals fluctuating,leading to problems with the coordinates of the Airbus A-321’s landing path.

Researcher,Amity student missing
Parents of an associate researcher,Saloni,a passout of Amity University,and the parents of Shivankit,a final year Biotechnology student,also of Amity University,fearing they had been abducted,lodged an FIR with the Civil Lines police station and Timarpur police station on Tuesday. Saloni’s mother had reportedly received a call about her abduction. According to the Noida police,a complaint was lodged in Sector-39 police station by Shivankit’s parents. “We put both their cell phones on surveillance. They were traced once near Amity and then at Shipra Sun City,Ghaziabad,after which we lost contact,” said the police officer. According to sources,the girl had taken Rs 2 lakh from her house before she went missing.

Can’t remove beggars from city: HC
The Delhi High Court on Thursday came down heavily on the government for forcing beggars to leave the city for their native states,terming it a “crime against humanity”. A Bench comprising Chief Justice A P Shah and Justice S Muralidhar took strong exception to the move.
