If from one wall Radha stares at you,painted in Kishangarh style,on another,legendary Bengali artist Nandalal Bose seems to be in deep thought. Various monuments from Qutab Minar to Taj Mahal and the Calcutta High Court are lined in a neat row. The display depicts the rich cultural heritage of India.
The medium is postage stamps,and the venue,appropriately,is Red Fort.
Part of the year-long celebrations of Archaeological Survey of India completing 150 years of its existence,the exhibition titled Stamp of the Past: Indian Heritage in Philately,was inaugurated by Culture Minister Kumari Selja on Friday,which was also the International Museum Day. Organised in collaboration with Department of Posts,this comprises over 150 stamps curated from the national archives and collections of philatelists from across India.
The exhibition aims at accomplishing the task of creating a sense of pride in our cultural legacy and imbuing the citizens of India with a heightened sense of responsibility about their contribution to the protection of our heritage, noted Selja,as she released the book titled Kumbhalgarh. Authored by C Dorje and DN Dimri,this is based on the Maharanas of Mewar.
The exhibition is on at Red Fort till July 17.
