A 10-year-old boy died and his 9-year-old brother was injured after they came in contact with overhead high-tension wires on Wednesday while playing on the roof of their house in Sainik Colony in Outer Delhi’s Nangloi area, police said.

According to the police, a PCR call was received at 6.30 pm about two children getting injured. “On reaching the spot, it was found that high-tension electric wires were running over the house, and due to accidental electrical contact, a mishap occurred,” DCP (Outer) Sachin Sharma said.

The children were identified as Suryansh, 10, and Ritik, 9, police said.

“Both of them were holding onto kite strings… Prima facie, it seems the thread (of the kite) got entangled in the wires,” a police officer said.

The children were immediately rushed to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital for treatment, where Suryansh succumbed to the injuries. “Suryansh had 35% burns while Ritik has 19% burn injuries,” the officer added.

Officials said three fire tenders were also rushed to the spot, but no major damage occurred due to a minor blaze that had broken out due to the incident.
