The houses of two men, who have been accused of cow slaughter, among several other charges, were razed in Haryana’s Nuh district Thursday, the police said, adding that it was “a warning from the Nuh police to the cow slaughterers”.

Nuh Superintendent of Police Varun Singla said that the action was part of a special campaign launched by the government against “miscreants involved in crime and illegal activities”.

The houses that were razed in Pachgaon belonged to Mubarik alias Tanna, and Khalid, the police said.

According to the police, Mubarik had built the house by acquiring illegal property and constructed it in violation of the district town planning department rules. Apart from cow smuggling, Mubarik was named in 10 other cases, including theft, loot, dacoity etc, registered in different police stations, including Gurgaon, Rohtak, Nuh and Tauru, the police added.

Police said Khalid has been booked under charges such as theft and cow slaughter in five cases at Tauru Sadar police station; some of the cases date back to 2011. He is currently out on bail.

Khalid, a driver, said that he had received two notices from the administration stating that the house was an illegal construction. “On May 9, I got the notice, and I went to the court with all my documents to prove that it was not illegal. My grandfather had made the house and my father renovated it by adding six more rooms. But I have not made any changes to the structure. Yesterday (on Thursday) when I was not at home, they came and demolished the entire structure,” he added.

The town planning department stated that Khalid had “illegally constructed house in the 150 yards on the controlled area of the district”.
