The Haryana government has increased the toll rates at 27 points on its various state roads, including the Gurgaon-Sohna road. The increased toll,one-and-a-half times the earlier rate, has been implemented with immediate effect.
According to the states toll policy,an increase is normally at the beginning of the financial year on April 1. This mid-year increase, will be revised by another one-and-a-half times on April 1,2012.
Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary of PWD (B&R),Haryana,S C Chaudhry said the mid-year revision has been necessitated following a sharp increase in traffic on roads.
The toll is collected mainly for the maintenance of roads, he said.
As per the new increase implemented on the Gurgaon-Sohna road, trucks will now pay Rs 200 for a round trip. Buses with stage carriage permits will pay Rs 200 for a round trip,Rs 300 for a daily pass and Rs 6,000 for a monthly one.
The rates have been increased on this road mainly because it was being used by several truck drivers to evade toll they had to pay on National Highway 8, Chaudhry said.
The rates for light commercial vehicles, however, remain the same on the Gurgaon-Sohna road.
