Gurgaon’s first civic polls today

Commissioner of Police S S Deswal has asked all police personnel to stay vigilant against anti-social elements. More than 3,000 police personnel,along with 500 home guards,will be deployed on the day of the polls. One ACP-level officer has been deployed for every six wards.

Every SHO has been instructed to supervise security in his or her area. Besides patrolling by PCR vans,30 check-posts will be placed at various locations in MCG area,starting midnight of May 14.

“Around 110 police officers,279 head constables,1,610 constables and 459 home guards will be deployed at the polling booths,” Deswal said.

Out of a total of 459 booths in 35 wards of the MCG,78 booths have been declared hyper-sensitive and 129 booths sensitive.

One non-gazetted official and three constables will be deployed at each hyper-sensitive booth,while one head constable and two constables will man each of the sensitive booths,officials added.

Police also conducted a flag march on Saturday.

The district administration,meanwhile,has come down heavily on candidates who violated norms and defaced property during their campaigning.

FIRs have been lodged against 32 candidates in various police stations. Assistant returning officer (ARO) Pushpendra Chauhan told Newsline that the FIRs were lodged over days of campaigning.

“The candidates have been booked under Defacement of Property Act at city police stations,Sector-15 and Civil Lines,” Chauhan said.

He added that action will be taken against them only after the elections and there will be no cancellation of candidature due to this.

Deputy Commissioner P C Meena had recently gone on a surprise inspection to check violations of the Defacement of Property Act.
