Gurgaon DC faces HC flak

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has pulled up the Gurgaon Deputy Commissioner for non-compliance of its directions, saying “such attitude of officers cannot be tolerated”.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has pulled up the Gurgaon Deputy Commissioner for non-compliance of its directions, saying “such attitude of officers cannot be tolerated”.

The High Court on July 4 told the Deputy Commissioner that it was his “responsibility” to ensure that court notices — served three months ago — reached private builders in Gurgaon.

The court was angry when none of the builders turned up during a hearing and the Gurgaon official also didn’t submit any report on Monday.

The case pertained to petitions filed by Gurgaon villagers, alleging that two IAS officers had sanctioned exchange of 150 kanals (one kanal is equivalent to one-eighth of an acre) of land.

A division bench, comprising Acting Chief Justice Jasbir Singh and Justice R K Jain, held that “it seems the DC has not shown any interest”. It asked the DC to be in court on August 3,the next date of hearing. The High Court also issued fresh notices to 21 builders.
