The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) may soon put a new proposal in place that will make it compulsory for big properties to have parking space on the ground floor.
According to the civic bodys new plan, the building plan for a plot measuring 100 sq metres and above will not be sanctioned unless the ground level is reserved for parking.
The number of cars have increased in the city. In residential colonies, they are always parked on the streets, blocking the passage of other cars and proving an obstacle when emergency vehicles have to come in. So,the new proposal has been floated, said Yogender Chandolia, the Chairman of Standing Committee.
He added the proposal has been approved by the Delhi Lieutenant Governor Tejendra Khanna. The problem is worse in upscale colonies of South Delhi, where houses are big and where people buy more than one car per family. Smaller houses will not have to follow the same rule as they have limited space,he added.
Those who have land measuring 100 sq metres or above can afford the arrangement. It will not be a big problem to reserve ground floor for slit parking. That way, their vehicle is also safe and the Delhi Traffic Police can heave a sigh of relief, he added. To encourage the creation of slit parking, the MCD has announced several schemes from time to time. It also offers a rebate in property tax for such an arrangement.
