Environment has never been this hot. After Al Gore lost the presidential race and became the presiding deity of eco-friendly discussions, green has become more than just a colour. Now,in the run-up to World Environment Day on June 5,a festival tries to walk the talk and sing the songs.

The Eco Festival — conceptualised by the NGO Kriti — will be held at the American Center on June 2 and 3. “The idea behind the festival is not to get people to do something only on World Environment Day,but to have them contribute every day,” says Aanchal Kapur of the NGO. Its workshops will tell you how to recycle wastepaper and used bottles, but as eco fests go these days, there will be green music with three Delhi musicians playing an unplugged set and a contemporary dance performance, alongside a variety of art installations. The photographer Enrico Fabian will showcase a collection of 20 photographs that looks at the waste generated by people through the eyes of a ragpicker. Social activist Pratibha Pande will exhibit her sketches and paintings on the city’s birds and trees, apart from installations such as water filters made out of copper matkas. There will also be Kosi Katha,a documentary on our river of sorrow Kosi by Jharna Anurag, and EcoTalk,an interactive session on Delhi’s birds with Ranjit Lal.

The workshops are free and entry is open to all.
