When DJ-producer James Augustino aka DJ Green Lantern got behind the console at Manre on Friday night, his reputation had already revved up the crowds. He was the man who had worked with American rapper Eminem. Playing as part of VH1’s Hip-Hop Hustle,DJ Lantern did not disappoint, belting out a series of rocking numbers. “When I was picking a name,I wanted something catchy. Somebody suggested this comic book character and I stuck with it,” says this New York-based DJ. He worked with Eminem’s independent music label,Shady Records, between 2002 and 2005. The collaboration yielded a few songs under the mix tapes series called Shady Invasion. This was followed by Invasion Pt II Conspiracy Theory. He also composed Eminem’s single Just Lose It from the 2004 album ‘Encore’,a hit in the US .

As DJ Lantern’s name spread in the music circuit,he found himself working with artists such as Jay Z,50 cent and Ludacris. “While Eminem’s music was aggressive,Jay Z had a more moderate style,” says the DJ who did a world tour with Jay Z in 2008. He is now collaborating on an album with American rapper Styles P. But before that comes a New Year’s show with singer Rihanna.
