Officials said people over 60 who are registered under the scheme can avail of the service. (Representational/ File) Ghaziabad Police Sunday launched the ‘Savera Yojna’, an initiative of the Uttar Pradesh Police, to provide security and quick police assistance to senior citizens in case of any emergency.
Officials said people over 60 who are registered under the scheme can avail of the service.
“Generally, when a call is made on 112 for emergency help, the control room assigns the call to the police response vehicle (PRV) concerned on the basis of the mobile location of the person. But, sometimes due to the dense population area, it often takes time to trace the exact location of the caller and policemen have to call the person and ask for the exact address and directions to the house. This process takes additional time, which increases the response time and delays prompt police assistance to the person in distress,” said the Ghaziabad Commissionerate in a statement.
It further said, “Since under the Savera Yojna, the name, address and mobile number of the person will already be available, police would be able to reach without any delay and confusion as soon as the registered person calls 112. Senior citizens… can (avail) emergency services such as ambulances etc. with just one call.”
Officers said police stations concerned are required to be in touch with registered senior citizens. “There will be a continuous dialogue between personnel of the local police station and senior citizens,” said an officer.
A senior citizen can sign up by calling 112 or using the link, http://125.16.12.217/srcitizenreg, after which police personnel will come and verify the details. Apart from this, they can register at the police station concerned. A police team also will go door to door for registration under the scheme.
