Games joint opening by Patil,Prince Charles

As controversy still brews over who will inaugurate the Commonwealth Games,a joint text is being prepared by senior officials of the government to be read out by President Pratibha Patil and Prince Charles.

As controversy still brews over who will inaugurate the Commonwealth Games,a joint text is being prepared by senior officials of the government to be read out by President Pratibha Patil and Prince Charles.

While the Queen of England usually inaugurates the ceremony,the diplomatic wrangle began as a result of her giving the the Delhi Games a miss.

The British foreign office wanted Prince Charles to unveil the ceremony,but New Delhi insists President Patil should be the one to inaugurate the ceremony. After much discussion,a joint appearance is now being planned.

The Presidents of Maldives,Belize,Nauru,Prince of Monaco,Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore and Prince Faisal of Jordan will be attending the opening ceremony.

Prince Charles,who will be accompanied by wife Camilla Parker Bowles,is also expected to go to Patiala to visit Captain Amarinder Kaur’s palace. The South Block is also working on his itinerary in the country.
