Were not sure if the father of the nation would have approved,but a keg of whisky brewed in the wooded hills of Scotland in 1947 is being shipped to India after 62 long years. Part of a larger collection known as the Macallan Fine and Rare,these 16 bottles out of a total of 40 (24 are for the international market),will be available in India in August this year,to coincide with the Independence Day celebrations. The price tag: Rs 28 lakh per bottle. The date 1947 is significant in Macallans history as it is in Indias. We thought of celebrating this common history with India by introducing this whisky for connoisseurs, says Ken Grier,51,director of malts,Edrington Group. Considering the state of the world economy,it seems unlikely that a Rs 28 lakh whisky will find many takers in India but Grier remains upbeat. People with taste who appreciate spectacular Scotch will buy it, he insists. Next,the group plans to pitch the Macallan 1953 vintage,since it was the year Sir Edmund Hillary conquered Mount Everest.
