A fire broke out at a clothing shop in Noida’s Logix Mall around 11 am on Friday. Chief Fire Officer (CFO) Pradeep Kumar said that the shop on the first floor was yet to open for business for the day when the fire broke out. According to officials there were no casualties and those inside the mall were safely evacuated.
Around 15 fire tenders were rushed to the spot. Before the fire tenders could reach the mall, fire officials instructed the mall authorities to evacuate the building as soon as possible, said a fire official.
“Since the shutters of the shop were still down when the fire broke out, we are assuming that the reason behind it was a short circuit,” said Kumar. The fire tending and cooling down process concluded around 2.15 pm.
Kumar added that the fire seemed to originate near the changing room area of the shop.
While the fire was quickly doused, the firemen had to deal with thick smoke that had accumulated in the mall. The glass exterior of a cafe on the ground floor was then broken to allow a smoke extractor machine to dispel the smoke.
‘Mall will be ready for customers by evening’
An employee of the mall administration said they will be ready for customers by the evening after they have cleared the water and broken glass. “There was not much damage since only one shop caught fire. The smoke didn’t do any damage to the interiors either,” he said, requesting anonymity.
Devendra Kumar, who works as a shifter at the mall, was on the first floor when the fire broke out. “I was shifting boxes in the first floor lift when a security guard came and told us to rush outside.” “We just saw a bit of smoke, which got thicker only later when all of us were outside.”
Barun Jha, a maintenance staff said, “We were in the basement so we didn’t even get to know when or where the fire broke out. I had just come for my duty and was filling the attendance register when someone came running and told us there’s a fire. We all panicked and ran out.”
Rahul Kumar, a sales promoter at a shoe shop on the ground floor, said the smoke was thick and the stench of burnt plastic was everywhere. “People did panic a little and ran for their lives outside. Everyone, from the offices to the shops, began running.”
