Five men of a gang that allegedly looted a jewellery shop in Karol Bagh area of New Delhi last month were arrested after a 1,200-km chase, the Delhi Police said on Saturday. Inspired by the Bollywood movie Special 26, the accused had allegedly posed as police and Income Tax officers, looted 1 kg of gold, worth around Rs 70 lakh, and then fled, officers said.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Rishi Kumar said five accused, including a government servant and another posing as an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Public Relations Department of the Madhya Pradesh government, were arrested after a 72-hour long interstate operation spanning over 1,200 km across Delhi and Haryana.

The accused seized the workers’ phones, dismantled the CCTV system, and fled with 1.001 kg of gold.
After registering an FIR, a team of Delhi Police’s Prasad Nagar Police station and central district’s Special Staff, launched a probe and analysed more than 250 CCTV cameras besides doing technical tracking, and human intelligence.
“The team arrested one of the key members, Sandeep (30), a resident of Jind, Haryana, from Bahadurgarh, and later arrested the other four accused identified as Rakesh Sharma (41), Shaminder Pal Singh (43), Lavpreet Singh (30), and Parvinder (42). The police team recovered 435.03 grams of stolen gold, Rs 3.97 lakh in cash, and three vehicles, Brezza, Toyota Urban Cruiser, and Swift Dzire, used in the crime,” Kumar said.
We have also recovered five fake Delhi Police ID card holders, and the uniforms worn during the raid were also seized.
Investigations revealed that Sandeep, had posed as an OSD, and Parvinder, a government employee, masterminded the operation, inspired by the Bollywood film Special 26. The duo motivated the other accused to conduct the fake raid and made the quick money. After the act, they distributed the looted article.
The police have identified three more people allegedly involved in the theft. The raids are being conducted to arrest them and recover the remaining gold, officers said.
