Delhi continues to reel under cold wave conditions, with minimum temperature again resting a few notches below normal on Sunday.

The Met department said the minimum temperature on Sunday (5.5 degrees Celsius) was around three degrees below normal for this time of the year. The minimum temperature recorded on Saturday was 5.2 degrees Celsius, the season’s lowest so far.

A thin layer of fog settled on the city in the morning, reducing visibility to 200 metres, which with icy winds added to the discomfort of early morning commuters.

The low visibility also delayed start of the one-day international match between India and Sri Lanka at the Ferozshah Kotla stadium. Flight movement, however, remained unaffected.

Officials at the Met department said northwesterly winds blowing over North India and snowfall in higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh were leading to cold wave conditions in the region.

According to the weatherman,Delhiites will wake up to a misty morning on Monday and maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 22 and 6 degrees Celsius, respectively.

In 2008,the lowest minimum temperature recorded in December was 6.4 degrees Celsius. In 2007,the lowest temperature in the month was 3.9 degrees Celsius.
