Unidentified men held a family hostage and robbed cash and jewellery worth lakhs in Yamuna Vihar,Northeast Delhi,on Sunday evening.
The police said around 10.15 pm,brothers Manoj Gupta,34 and Rishi,30,returned home from their Seelampur factory.
As soon as they entered the house,three men forced themselves inside as well and held the entire family hostage on gunpoint on the ground floor,the police added.
The robbers were in the house for nearly 30 minutes; a call to the police was made around 11 pm.
Besides the brothers,their mother Vimla Devi,70,Manojs wife Dipali and their two children and Rishis wife,Pooja and their son,were in the house when the incident took place.
The robbers first opened the cupboard on the ground floor and then ransacked the first floor. Cash and jewelley worth Rs 6 lakh are believed to have been taken, a senior police officer said.
The family members could not confirm how the robbers entered the house and the time they left. The only thing they remember is two robbers had muffled their faces whereas the third covered his face with a piece of cloth after spending a few minutes in the house, he added.
The police are in the process of making the sketches of the robbers with the help of the family.
Surender Singh Yadav,Deputy Commissioner of Police,Northeast,said a case of robbery has been registered at the Bhajanpura police station. A few suspects have been identified,he added.
