Delhi: Factory worker killed after he falls from second floor, lands on rolling machine

The deceased was identified as Praveen, 25, a tailor who had been living in Aman Vihar's Balveer Nagar for the past two months.On Friday afternoon, 30-year-old Vikas was at work at a metal factory in the Mandoli Industrial area. He was on the second floor of the building when, suddenly, he slipped and fell — landing right on top of a rolling machine that severed his neck. The incident took place at the Mandoli Industrial area on Friday afternoon. According to police, a PCR call was received at Harsh Vihar police station from one of the workers at the factory who said that a man had fallen from one of the floors.
Footage from a CCTV camera at the factory showed that the incident took place between 2.30 pm and 3 pm when Vikas was working, police said. He slipped from the second floor and fell on the rolling machine, killing him.
Police have registered a case of death due to negligence against unknown persons at Harsh Vihar police station. “The body has been sent to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Crime and forensic teams were rushed to the spot and are investigating the matter. Agencies concerned have been informed to enquire about the operations in the factory,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast Delhi) Ashish Mishra said. Hailing from Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh, Vikas lived in the Rahul Garden area of Loni, Ghaziabad, with his wife Sangeeta, who is pregnant. Police officers said he had been working at the factory since February and was hired by a local contractor.
“The contractor, along with other people associated with the factory, are being questioned. Safety measures deployed at the facility and working conditions of workers are also being investigated,” a police officer said.
