With an eye on the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is seeking to expand its base in the capital, especially in the form of social media volunteers.

The drive’s main objective, according to party sources, is getting “thousands” of professionals in the national capital region onboard as social media volunteers. Potential recruits need to fill out a form and list their preferences.

“Volunteers have to communicate which Assembly and Parliamentary constituency in the city they reside in and want to be a part of apart from sharing information about their profiles on platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Koo and YouTube,” a party leader said.

According to party sources, getting social media volunteers onboard was the main objective of the drive, adding that YouTubers were particularly welcome.

“The volunteers will meet senior party leaders who will instruct them on the way forward; this will be followed by training like we have had for social media coordinators of BJP MPs from across the country earlier this year,” the leader added.

Last month, the BJP announced its new team for the city following which it launched a nationwide initiative to expand its social media reach across a hundred Lok Sabha constituencies across the country.

“The initiative is a part of the national programme and includes all seven parliamentary constituencies in the city and is being coordinated by the Delhi BJP’s social media head, Rohit Upadhyay,” a leader said. According to BJP leaders, interested candidates can choose to associate with and contribute to party activities on the ground and online through social media and YouTube.
