The counting for the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) elections was underway at the North and South campuses and the final results are expected by 4 pm on Monday.

In the fray are candidates from RSS-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Congress-supported National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), and a Left coalition comprising the All India Students’ Association (AISA) and the Students’ Federation of India (SFI).

The candidates for the post of president are ABVP’s Rishabh Chaudhary, NSUI’s Rounak Khatri, and AISA’s Saavy Gupta.

The candidates for the post of vice president are ABVP’s Bhanu Pratap Singh, NSUI’s Yash Nandal, and AISA’s Ayush Mondal.

Winners for the posts of treasurer and general secretary in the four-member body will also be declared on Monday.

While voting took place in September, the counting was delayed after the Delhi High Court pulled up the varsity for rampant defacement during the campaign.

The administration has now asked the candidates to sign an undertaking that the celebrations will be muted.

The candidates have signed an affidavit pledging to “not resort to roadshows and rallies after the declaration of results” and avoid celebratory activities such as using dhols, loudspeakers, firecrackers, or distributing pamphlets.

Non-compliance with these measures could result in the nullification of a candidate’s victory or removal from their elected position, as per the affidavit.

Till the last reports came in, NSUI presidential candidate Khatri had amassed 4,565 votes at the end of round four of counting, and the ABVP candidate was trailing with 4,072 votes.

Whereas ABVP’s Singh was leading the race for the post of vice president with 4,336 votes against the NSUI candidate’s 3,441 votes.
