A meeting of the Delhi University Academic Council, called on Friday to discuss implementation of the semester system in the university, was stalled midway following stiff opposition and protests by members.

DU Vice-Chancellor Deepak Pental had to call off the meeting before any item on the agenda could be discussed. The date for the next Academic Council meeting is yet to be decided.

The Delhi University Teacher’s Association (DUTA) also held a demonstration outside the V-C’s office. Aditya Narayan Misra, the DUTA president, said,“The issue has far-reaching consequences on the university’s functioning, including evaluation, course structure, content and pedagogy.”

Dhani Ram,a Council member, said the semester system couldn’t work in DU due to the lack of a competent Controller of Examinations.

The DUTA has issued a directive to all Council members for support in opposing the move.
