DU college student found hanging in classroom

A 21-year-old man was found dead at Delhi University’s Satyawati College campus.

A 21-year-old man was found dead at Delhi University’s Satyawati College campus on Friday afternoon. While the police have called it a suicide, the family alleged he was murdered.

The incident occurred in Room No. 207 of Satyawati College where Mohammad Amir Malik was found hanging from a nylon rope tied to the classroom’s ceiling fan around 1 pm. Police said that a suicide note found at the spot simply stated: I quit, and I love you.

The second-year BA (Honours) Programming student had reportedly left for college from his home at Shriram Colony in Northeast Delhi’s Kachcha Pushta area on Friday morning. Malik’s father,Nazir Ahmad, runs a dairy near his residence in Khajoori Khas.

Enraged relatives vandalised college property after the police declared it to be a case of suicide. The family claimed that around two months ago,Malik eloped with a girl from Bharat Nagar. They had rented a house in the same area, his father said.

Meenu Chaudhary,Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest),meanwhile, said,“Malik had eloped with a classmate about 20 days ago.”

Later, after the girl’s family registered a case, she was sent back to her parents, and Malik was kept at the Bharat Nagar police station for a day.

Malik’s family has alleged that he was killed. This, they claim, was apparent from the way the body was found directly above a table that had sets of seven to eight different footprints.
