DTU students call off agitation

After more six weeks of agitation, the Delhi Technological University students called off their agitation on Wednesday.

After more six weeks of agitation, the Delhi Technological University (DTU) students called off their agitation on Wednesday. An email from Nitin Baraiya,a final-year student who was in the forefront of the agitation, stated: “As a result of our protest that started on March 4,2010,the government is being very cooperative now and working to compensate the loss. We are now observing a drastic change in the administration.

“We believe that except for our one demand,to retain the central character of DCE,they are now concerned about the other suggestions.”

The agitation had lost some steam of late, especially after the incidents of April 21 in which two groups of students clashed near the Bawana Road campus of DTU. Students had initially blamed the administration for the fracas but had to later admit that it was a clash between students along caste lines.

“We have noticed that the Delhi government now has a soft corner for us,” Baraiya told Newsline.
