Gangster Neeraj Bawana,presently lodged in Tihar jail,along with two other inmates,was found to have kept drugs,money and a mobile phone in his cell,jail authorities said. Police are investigating how the money and the drugs reached the high-security prison.
On August 23,sources said,jail authorities conducted a surprise check in the prison. The incharge had barely entered cell no. 10 where Neeraj Bawana,Virender Singh and Surender were lodged,when they noticed that some modifications had been made to the floor at the entrance door of the cell. Finding this suspicious,the floor tiles were immediately broken, a senior police officer said.
The ground was found dug up. A mobile phone,10 notes of Rs 1,000 denomination,a Samsung battery,two SIM cards and 10 grams of charas were found.
Incidentally,two days later,a head constable spotted a black Pulsar near the jail. When officials approached the two men on the bike,one of them started to run. They were later arrested and identified as Sikander and Mohit. Their bag was searched and police found a wine bottle and several packets of cigarettes in it. Police sources said the duo had come to deliver the consignment to a prisoner.
