Doctor arrested for forgery

A doctor who reportedly worked at Fortis Hospital earlier was arrested on Wednesday by the Southeast Delhi police on charges of forging his medical degrees.

A doctor who reportedly worked at Fortis Hospital earlier was arrested on Wednesday by the Southeast Delhi police on charges of forging his medical degrees.

According to the police,the accused,Jatinder Kumar Sharma,40,had been practising in Delhi and Meerut for the past 15 years. At the time of his arrest,Sharma was a visiting doctor at the Mirpur dispensary in Lajpat Nagar,the police said. He was arrested from his residence in Paharganj on a complaint by the Delhi Medical Council.

The police said Sharma has fake MBBS and MD degrees from Maharaja Kishen Chand Gajpati Medical College in Berhampur,Orissa. The police claimed to have recovered more than 100 certificates of appreciation and participation in various seminars from him.

According to the police,on interrogation,Sharma confessed that he had never done an MBBS or MD from any college in India or abroad. “When he failed to get admission in any medical college,he forged certificates,” an official said.

The police added Sharma used forged documents to be registered by the Delhi Medical Council. “He said he had worked with Fortis Hospital at Vasant Kunj. He also produced a certificate for the same,” an official said. The police are yet to verify the authenticity of the certificate.
