After heavy rains lash Delhi-NCR, IMD issues orange alert for today

Between 5:30 am and 8:30 am, a rainfall of 17.2 mm of rainfall was recorded, with the Aya Nagar recording 23.8 mm, and Lodhi Road at 17.8 mm. The department attributed this morning’s rain spell to a moderate or intense cloud patch passing across Delhi-NCR.

A minimum temperature of 23.8 degrees Celsius was recorded on Thursday morning. With overcast skies and rainfall predicted, the maximum temperature is likely to be around 35 degrees Celsius.

In June, Delhi has recorded 96.7 mm of rainfall, which is 45 per cent excess over the normal 66.7 mm recorded till June 29 at the Safdarjung observatory, which serves as a marker for the city. IMD data shows that the recorded recorded till now is more compared to the 34.8 mm and 24.5 mm rainfall recorded in 2021 and 2022 respectively.

So far, the weather stations at Palam and Lodhi Road have both recorded over 100 mm of rainfall. At Palam, 143 mm of rainfall was recorded this month, an excess of 154%, while Lodhi Road recorded 112.3 mm.

In a bulletin issued on Wednesday, the IMD said that active monsoon conditions are likely to continue over northwest, central and western India during the next three days. The monsoon hit Delhi on June 25 this year, a little ahead of the normal onset date of June 27.
