Delhi-NCR Diwali traffic advisory: Routes to avoid, parking rules, and restrictions from Oct 18-21

Delhi-NCR traffic advisory: The Delhi Traffic Police has issued a traffic advisory ahead of Diwali celebrations for the national capital from October 18 to 21 to ensure smooth movement around crowded market areas such as Chandni Chowk, Daryaganj, and other areas in Old Delhi.

The advisory will remain in effect daily between 2pm-10pm. The advisory aims to prevent gridlocks and ensure a pleasant shopping experience for everyone visiting Old Delhi’s festive markets.

Traffic restrictions and diversions

– All buses, including DTC buses and commercial vehicles coming from Daryaganj side on Netaji Subhash Marg will be diverted from T-Point Subhash Marg towards Shanti Van.

– Vehicles coming from Old Delhi Railway Station or Lothian Road will be diverted from Chhatta Rail towards Salimgarh Bypass.

– Additional diversions may also be enforced from Shanti Van Chowk, Delhi Gate Chowk and GPO Chowk.

Designated parking areas

– Visitors are advised to park in authorised parking spaces to avoid congestion in Parade Ground Parking on Netaji Subhash Marg, ASI Parking on Nishad Raj Marg, Dangal Maidan Parking on SPM Marg, and Omaxe Mall Parking on HC Sen Road.

Important movement restrictions

– No e-rickshaw, auto rickshaw, or cycle rickshaw will be allowed beyond Chhatta Rail Chowk and T-Point Subhash Marg on Netaji Subhash Marg.

– Roadside parking is strictly prohibited.

– Pedestrians are urged to use footpaths and designated crossings only.

Police advisory for citizens

– Follow traffic rules and cooperate with personnel on duty.

– Use public transport instead of private vehicles, wherever possible.

– Remain patient and plan travel in advance to avoid delays.

– Refrain from illegal parking to ensure smooth traffic flow in market areas.

The Delhi police also appealed all residents, commuters, and visitors to extend full cooperation for the safe and convenient conduct of Diwali celebrations.

Ghaziabad Police has also issued a similar advisory effective from October 18 to 23 daily between 8am-10pm.

During these hours, heavy vehicles will be prohibited from entering Ghaziabad city to reduce congestion. Vehicles coming from Lal Kuan and Sajan Mod towards the city will be diverted via Atmaram Steel Tiraha and the Eastern Peripheral Expressway.

Additional police personnel will be deployed across key market areas and major roads to supervise diversions, parking, and maintain smooth vehicular movement. Authorities have urged residents and commuters to follow traffic rules, cooperate with police personnel, and plan their travel accordingly during the festive period.
