Police started questioning the child’s family members and soon, her aunt Roshanara confessed to the crime, said an officer. On the motive behind the murder, police said the accused, Roshanara, suspected that her sister-in-law Firdaus, Asina’s mother, was having an affair with her husband.

“The body was discovered due to the stench,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (northeast) A K Singla.

Firdaus told police that Roshanara had tried to kill Asina earlier as well, and once spilled boiling oil on her daughter’s hands, said police.

On the day of the incident, Asina was alone at home with her aunt, said police.
