Decision on top 3 MCG posts to take a while

The decision to call a meeting to decide on the election of the top three posts for the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon may take longer than expected.

The decision to call a meeting to decide on the election of the top three posts for the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) may take longer than expected.

The elections have thrown officials in a tizzy, and most of them are busy preparing the final index card of newly elected candidates that will be sent to the state election commission. The authority will give the final notification for the candidates after that is done.

The Returning Officer (RO) for the election,V S Hooda, who is also the Additional Deputy Commissioner of the district, has to list details of the 35 elected candidates. The detailed index card,as it is called, will list the educational qualifications, address proof and other information on the candidates.

After this card is sent to the election commission,it usually takes around a week for the latter to go through the formalities and notify the candidates. “We have prepared the cards and it will be sent to the commission today. This is high on our priority list,” Hooda said.

Once the notification is done,a meeting will be called to take everyone’s views and arrive at a decision on appointing the mayor, senior deputy mayor and deputy mayor. Officials said the entire process has to be completed within 30 days of the election.

The MCG,meanwhile, has a tough task ahead. It has to provide accommodation to the counsellors,an issue over which a debate has been undertaken. Sources said that the old MCG building, situated in front of the civil hospital, will house all the three top newly elected officials.

For the rest of the candidates,a hall will be allotted either at the mini-secretariat or some other place. The independents had ruled the roost in the first-ever MCG polls, which took place on May 15,with as many as 25 of the total 35 candidates winning from their respective wards.
