A man,who faked his own death to escape arrest, has finally fallen into the police net. The accused — identified as Parvez,a resident of Tilak Nagar — is wanted in 14 Excise Act violation cases and has been absenting himself from court for the last two years.

According to a senior police officer, his family informed the court during a trial that Parvez had died. Following this, the judge asked the police to verify the claim.

“When the police checked Parvez’s earlier address, they found a woman residing there. She did not seem to have any idea about his death,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) V Renganathan said. Further searches also went in vain.

Later, the police received a tip-off that Parvez was alive and residing in Raghubir Nagar. He had reportedly gone to Uttar Pradesh with his wife for casting his vote in the pradhan election. “On January 1,the team came across one Raju, who claimed to be the brother of Parvez. He insisted that Parvez had died 12 years ago. However, when the police asked Raju to produce the death certificate, the latter said that he was unable to procure one from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi,” Renganathan said.

The police picked up Raju for questioning, and procured his fingerprints. “The prints were checked on the CRIS (Computerized Remote Identification of Suspects) by a single-digit matching mechanism. Though the first four digits failed to give any results, the police achieved success with the fifth. In the interrogation that followed,Raju disclosed that he was Parvez. He has been arrested,” Renganathan said.
