A 17-year-old student was stabbed to death and his body dumped near the high-security Terminal 3 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) a week ago, police said.
While the body was found on Sunday, police could identify the victim only on Friday with the help of ZIPNET the centralised website of the Delhi Police where data of missing children and unidentified bodies are uploaded.
The victim has been identified as Harnool Singh,a resident of MIG flats in Rajouri Garden,West Delhi. His father provides taxis to call centres in Gurgaon. Singh was a Class XII student from the School of Open Studies. He had recently shifted to the Capital from Punjab.
Police said they were probing the personal enmity angle.
On the night of May 14,Singh had received a call on his mobile phone and left home immediately in a car.
He left in his fathers Swift Dzire car. When he did not return for two days, his family lodged a complaint with the Rajouri Garden police on May 16. We registered a case of kidnapping, said V Renganathan,Additional Commissioner of Police (West).
Police said the car in which Singh had left was missing from the scene of crime,as well as his mobile phone. The body was found dumped in the bushes behind a petrol pump in the highly secure area surrounding T3.
The IGI Airport police station had uploaded the data and his photo on the Delhi Police website. As we already had a missing complaint with us and his photograph,we could identify him through the website and contact his family, said a police officer. Police said they were scanning Singhs mobile phone records.
