Over 1,300 cases reported this year from 28 spots in and around 5 stations.

The Railway Police has identified several dark and sensitive spots across five railway stations in the capital that have reportedly become crime hubs with over 1,311 cases being reported from these areas.

Following this, police have written to the Railways requesting it to illuminate all these spots. Setting up of police posts in these areas have also been recommended.

Eight spots have been identified in and around Old Delhi railway station, five near New Delhi railway station, three near Hazarat Nizamuddin railway station, 10 near Anand Vihar railway station and two near Sarai Rohilla railway station.

According to police, the station house officers of all police stations in these areas identified a pattern in the crime incidents being reported from these locations. It was found that most crimes were reported during night hours due to insufficient lighting and less deployment in the area.

A  list of such spots was prepared and a letter was sent to the Railways asking it to install lights and illumination in all these spots.

“The SHOs observed that apart from major crime incidents, other activities like gambling, consumption of drugs, chain snatching and petty thefts also take place in these spots. We have asked the Railways to provide sufficient lighting. On our part, we will increase deployment in these areas,” DCP (Railways) Sanjay Bhatia said.
