Cylinder delivery agent dies as gas leak leads to fire

A 33-year-old gas delivery agent died on Monday after an LPG cylinder,which he was fitting in a customer’s home,caught fire due to gas leakage.

A 33-year-old gas delivery agent died on Monday after an LPG cylinder,which he was fitting in a customer’s home,caught fire due to gas leakage. The incident took place in Trilokpuri area in East Delhi and a case has been registered in Mayur Vihar Police station.

Vijay Kumar,an agent at Dikshit Gas Agency,delivered an LPG cylinder in Block-35,Trilokpuri. The customer asked him to fit the cylinder as she could not do it herself,said a police officer. “As they smelt gas leakage,Vijay lit a match to check if the leak was from the regulator and suddenly there was a fire,” she told the police.

Police said the woman ran out of the house,but Vijay tried to put off the fire with rags and anything he could lay his hands on. “The fire soon started to engulfed him and he kept going in the direction opposite to that of the door,” the police official said. Two fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the Fire department said they were able to get the fire under control by 1.40 pm. Vijay was rushed to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. Kumar lived in Kondli area in Delhi with his wife and two children.
