Avtar Singhs mutton curry in Chandni Chowk gets customers from all over Delhi
The mutton curry he serves has people flocking to his modest stall from all over Delhi. Avtar Singhs Super Restorent in Chandni Chowk has people queuing up from the time it opens at 10 in the morning to the time it shuts at 9 at night.
Singh is not too sure whats made his curry so popular. Maybe its because its cooked the old fashioned way or maybe its because of the liberal amount of red chillies that they put in it.
Before they set up this stall,Singhs family ran a flourishing business of swords near the Sishganj Gurdwara. In 1966,when the market was closed because a library was being constructed there,Singhs grandfather and father set up the curry stall.
It serves minced meat, meat pulao and chicken biryani too but its the spicy mutton curry with a generous swoosh of green chutney along with tawe ki roti that is its main draw. The food is cooked in a kitchen in the same lane that houses the stall and Singhs two sons who are still in college help him run the restaurant.
So,give Singhs curry a shot and if the curry is too hot for you,hop across to the famous Ghantewala Halwai just opposite for some mithai.
