Crooning Glory

“I received some training as a kid,especially since I was growing up in a musical environment,” says Mukesh,on a promotional visit for the movie at Spice World Mall,Noida.

Flaunting his brawny physique in a pink tee and denims,Mukesh obliged the small crowd and sung Aa dekhen zara. “Of course,I can’t be compared to Kishoreda,but it’s a classic track and a fitting tribute to my grandfather (Mukesh Chand Mathur). It comes to me naturally,” he smiles. However,he says his favourite track is his dad’s So gaya yeh jahaan from Tezaab (1988).

Besides singing in the film,Mukesh,who is cast along side Bipasha Basu,plays the character of a photographer (Ray Acharya) who has nothing going right for him. His luck changes once he is handed a ‘special’ camera by his grandfather that gives him a glimpse into the future. So what does Mukesh see in the future for himself? He dodges the question,but responds quickly with,“I don’t mind seeing the fate of the IPL matches and who will be the winner. My favourite team is Kolkata Knight Riders because I like the name,” he smiles.

Describing the film as a pacy roller-coaster thriller,Mukesh says he hopes it does at least as well as his acclaimed first release Johnny Gaddar (2007). “I have always liked playing character-oriented roles and this film portrays someone with different shades to his personality. He is a boy-next-door who goes on complicating things for himself,” he explains,while giving all the credit for his performance to the director. “Young directors has the vision to be daring. That is the USP of this film.”

Though he likes action movies,Mukesh wants to dabble in a romantic love story,for which he is in talks with Ken Ghosh. But with three releases — Tera Kya Hoga Johnny,New York and Jail — lined up for this year,there’s enough on his platter already.
