The summer can be fun with a customised swimming pool in your backyard
When Gurgaon-based businessman Zeeshan Malik wanted to transform his under-utilised basement,he explored the option of a multi utility spa pool. Malik sought some quotations, and eventually splurged on a pool with a movable floor (made of steel panels with tile finishing) which means he can change its depth to become as deep as 1.25m. I wanted to use the pool all year long so the basement was just apt, says Malik, who if he is not swimming, with just one click, transforms it into a dance floor. He has spent 16 lakhs on a pool with dimensions of 6m by 2.5m,and
a whopping 37 lakhs on the
movable floor.
Few home accessories can beat the luxury of your own swimming pool, and customised luxury spa pools are becoming hugely popular in Delhi. Movable swimming pool floors maximise the use of the pool. An indoor pool can become a dance floor, while an outdoor pool can double up as a parking space, all at the press of a button, says Hemant Atrish, chief designer of Technology Pools,a UK-based company which started its Indian entity last year, and is the first to bring the innovative offering here. They also offer engineering a movable swimming pool floor system for a new pool project or help you retrofit an existing facility.
But if dancing isnt top on your agenda, try the hydrotherapy spa pools that offer chromotherapy by installing an array of lights that keep changing and have as many as 200 jets massaging you head to toe. Its all customised and computerised for people to choose what kind of massage treatment they want and the water jets take care of everything else, says Pankaj Arora,MD of the Gurgaon-based Geo Spa Fitness. The cost varies according to size; while multi-level pools starts at Rs 37 lakh, level pools start at Rs 10 lakh while chromotherapy spas can cost Rs 8 lakh upwards. The dimensions of a typical residential swimming pool is between 12-20ft wide and 24-40ft long.
When Puneet Virmani decided to place a small pool outside his bungalow in Gurgaon,it was primarily for therapeutic benefits to ease his mothers back pain. It cost Virmani Rs 8 lakh to construct a small concrete structure. Exercising in water isnt a strain on the body. Plus its a great way to relax at the end of a hard day, smiles Virmani. If the pools are in the basement or on ground floor, only minimal structural changes are required. If you want to construct a pool on a higher floor,be prepared for massive structural redesign, since water carries a lot of weight. Pools on terraces require modifications to the structure, warns Atrish.
However,if you dont want to get into the exhausting process of building a concrete pool, try the 7 X 14 sq ft counter-current rehabilitation poolmade of six steel panels that are bolted together. Its light, you could even shift it around. Vipin Madan,MD,Smart Pools, who manufactures the steel panels and fits all accessories including the filtration, counter current generators and heating system at a cost of Rs 8 lakhs, says,Its a combination of a pool and a spa. The four jets enhance relaxation. Theres also the ultra-level infinity pool, and other smart accessories like remote-controlled automatic pool covers, its not just big villas and bungalows, even people in apartments can find a pool to suit their budgets and homes.
